What is Eczema?
Eczema affect about one fifth of school age children. It
can affect adult and is associated with hay fever and
asthma. Some people call it Atopic Dermatitis. The most
common symptoms are itching, dryness of skin and
inflammation. Constant scratching can also cause the
skin to split, leaving it prone to infection. Secondary
infection of skin may crack and weep (wet).
Sleep disruption is common in Eczema patient (80%).
Eczema can occur in the whole body, but are usually
found in front of the elbow, behind the knees, the side of
the neck or on the cheeks. Although the itching from
eczema is almost unbearable, it is not contagious.
Management and Treatment
1. Use water softener or shower filter to remove most of
the chlorine from the water supply.
2. Bathe in warm water rather than hot water, and cut
down your bathing time.
3. Always use a mild cleanser with moisturizer. For better
protection,use synthetic detergent base cleansers
instead of alkaline soap base cleanser. Some reports
said using a slightly acidic (PH 5.5) cleanser may be more
beneficial.
4. Apply a thick layer of moisturizing cream (not lotion)
on your whole body right after bath (while your skin is
still wet).
5. Use daily moisturizing lotion with sun protection facto
SPF-15.6.Avoid those food you are allergic. Such as egg,
seafood,milk or beef.
7.Wear 100% cotton clothing, avoid nylon and other
synthetic fabric.
8. Maintain a balance diet. Consume sufficient vitamins,
fish oil or Omega-3.
9.Use oral/topical antihistamine, such as Benadryl to
control itching. Hydrocortisone ointment/cream may be
more effective, but frequently uses may cause side
effects. Your doctor can also prescribe stronger
antihistamine and topical medicine.
10.Tea Tree Oil, Chamomile and honey may help.

What causes Eczema ?
The causes of Eczema are many and varied. It is
proposed that people with eczema are sensitive to
allergens in the environment which are harmless to
others. For example if you are allergic to egg, the
allergic reaction result from your immune system may
produce inflamed, irritated and sore skin,even you
consume a small amount of egg. Eczema can also be
caused by irritants such as chemicals and detergents.
